ArkEdge Space and ABIT Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and satellite communication devices, ArkEdge Space said on Thursday.

The partnership will combine ArkEdge Space’s satellite technologies and global partner network with ABIT’s expertise in ground services, IoT devices, and wireless technologies. ABIT is an IoT solutions provider based in Japan that develops IoT devices aimed at remote metering, disaster prevention, and other use cases.

The companies will collaborate to build and promote wide-area IoT solutions. They will also develop wireless communication equipment for satellites, building on ABIT’s communication module and protocol technologies.

ArkEdge Space reports it has conducted in-orbit demonstrations of low-power, long-range IoT communications with 18 satellites the company has deployed. It is now advancing into its next phase of international demonstrations and commercial deployment across North Africa, Central Asia, South America, and Asia-Pacific. It will apply the output of the partnership to its own satellite constellations and market them for commercial use.

“Bringing IoT solutions into real-world use requires more than satellite technology alone. It demands comprehensive ground-side execution capabilities spanning device design, mass production, on-site deployment, and long-term operation and maintenance. This partnership brings together these ground-side capabilities with satellite-enabled wide-area coverage to deliver end-to-end IoT solutions,” ArkEdge Space said in a statement.

In 2025, ArkEdge Space  closed a $52 million Series B funding round. Earlier this week, ArkEdge saw its AE1a microsatellite launch on the Transporter 16 mission. AE1a is designed to provide real-time vessel tracking and communications for the maritime market.
